A Message From Mr. Woods

I sincerely wish each and every one of you a
future filled with success and happiness. Four
years doesn't seem like a long time now that you
are looking back at your years at WHS. You
probably have some vivid memories of some of
your days here as freshman. Now that those days
are over and you have journeyed through your
sophomore, junior and senior years, I would like
to ask that you reflect on that journey and try to
focus on the good times, the positive experiences,
and, most of all, all those who helped you through
your four years. I hope that each of you has
reached a sense of completeness as this chapter of
your life ends. I hope that you will take with you
the wisdom to deal with adversity and the convic-
tion to follow your dreams.

Each of you has made a valuable contribution to
WHS. Whether your strengths are in academics,
athletics, art, music, or drama, what matters most
is that you arrived here everyday with a positive
attitude and a pleasant and courteous manner.
That is what you will most be remembered for.

Now is the time to continue your journey beyond Wilmington High
School. I wish you well. May every experience you have teach you and
guide you through your life and help you to fulfill your dreams. Remem-

The four years that I attended Wilmington High School were great. I
remember starting off as a freshman when everything was new to
me. I was lucky enough to have some friends who were already here
to help me. These four years were so good and very memorable. I
just can't believe that I am a senior. That's how fast your four years
of high school fly by. When things get tough do not give up, keep
fighting and you will get what you want.

»> On August 28, 1999, the class of 2003 anxiously set foot inside Wilmington High school, as we began ^^
J^w chapter in our lives. Graduation seemed years away, but little did we realize how quickly the next four J
;ars would fly by. New friendships were created, and memories were made. Our first important decision aS
le class of 2003 came in the fomi of class elections. As a class, we chose Steve Sperandio as our president;
fed Gillespie as our vice-president; Rachel DiGregorio as our secretary; and Jenessa Mutchler as our trea-
irer. We were confident that they would be the best representation of the class of 2003. Fall of freshman
2ar came and went quickly, with the Homecoming dance, and the annual Thanksgiving football game
gainst Tewksbury. The football team went on to become CAL co-champions, along with their CAL co-
aampion cheerleaders. The winter and spring seasons also brought about many sports victories, with the
ockey team becoming CAL champions, the golf team winning the league, and the softball team also became
!AL champs. While many of us looked forward to the Freshman Fling in the spring, we were disappointed at
le cancellation of this annual event. However, we were equally as pleased with the new combined fling and
jmi, refened to as the "Flemi" by some.

I Sophomore year came with a new dreaded graduation requirement-MCAS ! The class of 2003 became the
rst class mandated to pass this standardized test in order to graduate. Many were worried, but in the end
lost succeeded. With a new year there also came a new class officer; we said goodbye to Treasurer Jenessa
k lutchler, as welcomed Kiistie Crampton to the job. In the world of athletics, there were many successes.
^ 'he football team defeated our rivals, the Tewksbury Redmen, in the annual Thanksgiving game. They also
1/ent on to clinch the title of CAL co-champions. The golf team won the championship, and the hockey and
iiloftball teams once again took home CAL championships. Sadly, we were forced to say goodbye to a won-
erful teacher and coach, as we suffered the loss of Dick Scanlon. He is still missed by all here at
Wilmington High School.

I Junior year came with thoughts of our first prom & the beginning of our college searches. Our class offic-
L rs were working hard, and were reelected for another year. With the beginning of the new school season
llame an event that would change our lives forever-the attacks on September 1 r'\ We joined together as a
lass and as a school to mourn the losses that our nation endured. Bonded closer than we were before, the
|ear went on. The athletic program continued to excel, while the golf, hockey, cheerleading and softball
earns all went on to earn the title of CAL champs. We celebrated the success of wrestler Derek Hanley, as
e became a state champion. The boy's basketball team was the greatest success story of the year, achieving
le best record in school history (20-4), and becoming Division 3 North Finalists. We celebrated the end of
le year with our junior prom, which was held at the Burlington Marriot instead of the Hillview Country
Hub, because our class was simply too large to accommodate. Brian Gillespie was crowned Prom King, and
enn Estremera was crowned Prom Queen. It was a memorable evening, which was captured on tape by John
tlaravelis, for us to enjoy and remember forever,
g Senior year came sooner then we all expected. We said goodbye to Vice President Keri Gillespie and
Recretary Rachel DiGregorio, and welcomed new Vice President John Tobin, and new Secretary Jordan
piVeiner. We were welcomed back to school with the annual Homecoming dance. Michael Jordan was
[/trowned king, and Lindsay Rosa was crowned queen. The senior girls showed their tough sides in the annual
^owder Puff game against Tewksbury, and although it was a close game, in the end we were defeated. The
ports teams continued to strive; while the golf team went on to have their fourth consecutive undefeated
ieason. The year began to wind down, and we began making decisions about our futures. We came together
or our prom on May 16 at the Hyatt Regency in Cambridge. It was an unforgettable night. On May 27 we
oined together one final time before graduation to have a night full of fun at our senior lock-in. Before we
mew it, the day we had been waiting for was here. We'd survived 4 years of midyears and finals, good times
md bad, and made it to graduation! On June 1, 2003 we said our final goodbyes. While many of us were
lappy to leave high school, we were reluctant to say goodbye. However we knew that wherever we traveled
n the future, we'd always take with us the memories and friendships that we made here at Wilmington High
School

The Boys Soccer team had a great
season this year finishing with a 13-
6- 1 regular season record. They
went to the state tournament and
became Sectional Semifinalists.
They won 3 games in the
tournament defeating Concord-
Carhsle, Hyde Park, and Chelsea
before losing to Lincoln-Sudbury.
The team was happy with their
record this year, especially the
seniors because their last year ■
playing high school soccer was their
most successful one.The team hopes
to improve next year and go further
in the state tournament..

The boys Cross Country team
posted its best season in a number
of years. Led by seniors, Dan
Vassallo, Steve Berry, Nick Eaton,
Jordan Weiner, Greg Buck, and
Pat Taylor, the team finished fifth
in the CAL. Shayne Gaffney and
Dan Vassallo were named CAL
All Stars, Wilmington's first All
Stars since 1998. Underclassmen
stepped up this season, with the
top three runners winning med-
als during Coshes Invitational
and Vassallo beroming the first
runner ever to qualify for the All-
State Championship, it was a
memorable season for the
Wilmington team.

had a successful season. Tliey placed
4th in the CAL large school. Tlie team

Young. The underclassmen learned
from seniors: Sara Enos, Shannon
Gilligan, Shelley Hardimon, Tara
Hardimon, Marianne Hery, Brittany
Irwin and Lindsey Rosa as well as
seniormanagerCarolinePowers. Both
on and off the field the team exempli-
fied true sportsmanship and team
work. They held several dinners at
which they created everything from
Big Sister events to lyrics for new team
songs;songs thatechoed across which-
e\er field they were playing at. The
season will be remembered not for
talent alone, but for the outstanding
individuals who strived for excellence
both on and off the field.

The 2002 Volleyball team started out
with a great record. The girls were led
by Coach Staffier, co-captains Lauren
Crowley and Erica Barrett, and se-
niors; Holly Flynn, Courtney Hassey,
and Stacy Comer. The team started off
on a winning streak and qualified for
the State Tournament for the second
consecutive year. They won their first
two state tournament games but ended
up losing in the semi-final match.
Coach Staffier coached the girls
through a great season which left them
with excellent memories of time spent
with each other and winning together.

The Wilmington High School Golf
Team enjoyed another successful
season in 2002. The team finished
their regular season with 16 wins,
losses, and 1 tie. This is the third
straight season the team has ended
with that exact record, and brings
the three and a half-year streak to 56
straightmatcheswithouta loss. Four
years in a row the team has captured
Cape Ann League Championships
and advanced to the Division Three
State Finals. The team finished sec-
ond this 3'ear in the Division Three
North Sectional Qualifier at
Thomson C.C., and finished in sec-
ond place for the second straight
year at the Division Three State Fi-
nals.

The 20(12- 2003 Wildcat Wrestling team
had a historic season. Led by Captains
Roman Walsh and Jordan Weiner. along
with seniors Derek Hanley. Cory Calway,
Chris Kittredge. Matt Gennetti. Dennis
Trulli and Phil O'Brien, the Wildcats, for
the first time, beat their long time rivals the
North Andover Scarlet Knights. The team
ended the season with the best record in
theirhistory, 13-8-1 overall, and S-1 in the
CAL. For the first time the team had a two
time State Champ, Derek Hanley, Also,
three wrestlers were finalists at the State
Tournament. Derek Hanley and Roman
Walsh captured the State Championship
title, while Jordan Weiner placed second.
Derek Hanley later won the All State Tour-
nament and then placed second in the New
England Tournament. Congratulations to
the entire team

senior on the team is Jen Jensen ,

Abel and Jen Cocoran. The team
did enjoy some success this
season. They beat four teams
and tied four others. More
important than their successes
on the ice was the friendship
and camaraderie that they
developed as a team

Tri-Captains Steven Berry, Daniel

both athletic excellence and
inspiring leadership. The team was
more talented and united than it had
been in many j'ears. Along with the
captains, the team leaders in scoring
included Johnny Lee. Matthew
Dorothy. Mathew Goldblan. Brian
Schell. Shayne Gaffney, Todd Chen,
and Christopher Murray. Team
leaders in spirit included Matthew
Boland. Jon Baker. Jared Miller, and
Buck Collings. Incredible effort was
shown by everyone
